Skoda completes the release of its refreshed bestseller for 2021! The Skoda Octavia vRS has its fourth generation, boasting even more levels of safety, comfort, and driver assistance. For the first time ever, the Octavia is available with a choice of 3 powertrain options: 2.0-litre TDI producing 200PS, the 2.0-litre TSI 245PS and the hybrid vRS iV that delivers 245PS. The new models also benefit from being more aerodynamic, resulting in a lower level of CO2 emissions.
Powertrain & Chassis Updates
The new Octavia range boasts dynamic and efficient EVO-generation petrol and diesel engines. It also benefits from a 15mm reduction in ride hight and sporty chassis.
2.0 TSI – 245PS – 6-speed Man/7-speed DSG – Front-wheel drive – 0-100kmh 6.8s
2.0 TDI – 200PS – 7-speed DSG – All-wheel drive – 0-100kmh 6.8s
The new 2.0 TSI engine of the ŠKODA Octavia vRS is based on the power unit of the previous generation’s Octavia vRS 245. Further development of the engine focused on maintaining its dynamic characteristics and maximum output of 180 kW (245 PS) while making it even more efficient. This was achieved by increasing the fuel injection pressure up, and by using newly shaped piston crowns and a new crankshaft seal to reduce friction. Furthermore, the ŠKODA engineers modified the exhaust gas routing as well.
New Tech & Driver Assistance
First off, lets look at the debut technology of shift-by-wire. This basically means there is no mechanical connection between the gearbox and the selector, instead it relays what gear you want electronically, saving space for a newly re-designed control module in the centre console.
The Octavia also now has progressive steering as standard. This ensures that steering is improved at higher and lower speeds. They have also shortened the distance from lock to lock on the steering from 2.70 turns to 2.13. New cars are starting to have a lot more driver assistance systems coming as standard, and the new Octavia vRS is no exception. It comes with a new Collision Avoidance Assist helps to drive around a pedestrian, cyclist, or other vehicles, which helps to prevent an impending collision. At junctions, Turn Assist can detect oncoming traffic at an early stage when turning right, it can warn the driver or automatically stop the vehicle. Very re-assuring!
Tne thing that can be said about this car is its ability to catch your eye, which cannot be said for a Skoda that often! Exclusive black design details such as the gloss black grille and wing mirrors, along with the full LED matrix headlights, the front has a certain aggressive look to it.
Further aesthetic improvements include 19-inch black alloys with red brake callipers as standard, and animated coming home/leaving function. The striking ŠKODA grille, the front diffuser and the air curtains located above the tinted LED fog lights are all designed in gloss black. The wing mirror housings, the window frames, the estate’s roof rails and aeroflaps at the rear, as well as the diffuser on the rear apron, the ŠKODA lettering on the tailgate and the hatchback’s vRS rear spoiler all come with a black finish.
The interior of the Octavia vRS is characterised by a sporty black, carbon-fibre look with Alcantara and new three-spoke steering wheel design keep up the sporty atmosphere around this car, and if equipped with the DSG will have paddles just behind it. You can have the Alcantara sports seats with a massage function as an optional extra, but the car already comes with plenty of equipment, and plenty of Alcantara, with the dash, steering wheel and door linings all having at least a little of it! There is also a new innovative central airbag in the front to protect driver and passenger.
The 10.25-inch virtual cockpit comes as standard, which features a sportier layout and new vRS logos specially. The infotainment systems feature new-generation technology from Volkswagen Group’s Infotainment Matrix and sport a 10-inch central display. A permanent internet connection is provided as well by a built-in eSIM which enables the use of numerous mobile online services!
