The camouflage has come off the new Skoda Octavia, unveiling a sharp new design. The fourth generation of the Octavia is all-around bigger than the previous generation, using high-quality materials and the latest technologies.
The interior of the features a new two-spoke steering wheel with a heated version as an option, a new modular dashboard design has been used which has been arranged on different levels with a large central display. The centre console is fresh and streamlined with chrome detailing which continues to the door handles and trim. The interior has an overall premium feel with soft-touch materials used throughout the cabin and LED ambient lighting with a choice of ten colours.
A head-up display is available as an option, a first on a Skoda. Important information such as; speed, navigation, detected traffic signs and active driver assists will be displayed on the windscreen, an optional heated windscreen is also available. Another first for a Skoda is particularly back-friendly Ergo seats, featuring an electric massage function. When optioned with the keyless entry system (KESSY), any of the four doors can be opened first. To help reduce road noise acoustic side windows at the front are available.
Shift-by-wire technology has been used to operate the DSG, electronically connecting the driver's inputs to the transmission. Replacing the DSG lever, a small control module is incorporated into the centre console, using a rocker switch to select drive modes as well as a button for parking mode.
The fourth-generation Octavia is the most efficient and eco-friendly Octavia yet, with many alternate powertrains available including a plug-in hybrid version for the first time, the Octavia iV. A 1.4 TSI petrol engine combined with an electric motor giving a maximum output of 204PS, a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 37Ah is used which gives an all-electric range of up to 55 km in the WLTP cycle.
