Subaru's Forester is their biggest selling model in the UK, the fifth generation continues Subaru's heritage while looking to the future with the e-Boxer powertrain.
The e-Boxer has been built from the ground up, combining an electric motor with Subaru's two core technologies: the horizontally-opposed Boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Forester is now built on the Subaru Global Platform, a re-design of the body and chassis giving advanced safety and a dynamic driving experience. Safety is of highest priority for the Forester e-Boxer, using the latest technologies such as; EyeSight driver assist technology, Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection, Reverse Automatic Braking and Driver Monitoring System, all of which are standard over the entire range.
With updated exterior styling, a high-quality interior, great boot space and 220mm of ground clearance make this new Forester the roomiest and most capable yet. The Forester is perfectly at home both on and off-road, the X-Mode dial has been updated allowing the driver to switch between two modes to deal with extreme weather and road conditions.
The e-Boxer drivetrain uses a 2.0 direct injection horizontally opposed engine paired to an electric motor. The lithium-ion battery is housed in the floor of the boot and gives the ability to drive under full-electric power only at speeds up to 25mph. Using the latest Lineartronic transmission and Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, gives the e-Boxer a smooth acceleration and very responsive torque. Three driving modes are alternated between depending on conditions; EV driving, Motor Assist driving and Engine driving.
EV Driving is used when travelling at low speeds, using only the electric motor for zero-emission driving, up to the distance of around one mile and 25mph, mostly used in urban environments. Motor Assist Driving engages at medium speeds, using the motor and engine together to give more power and better performance. Motor Assist also improves ability off-road too, giving torque earlier when using X-Mode, helping while towing too, with a towing capacity of 1,870kg. Engine Driving is used at higher speeds, with only the petrol engine being used, the engine recharges the battery while in this mode.
