Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+ News

Mercedes have added a 612 horsepower, AMG version of the GLS to their lineup. This AMG version of the GLS will feature some unmistakable AMG design cues; from the grille featuring chrome louvres, it is also the largest grille to feature on any AMG model to date. Powerdomes also features on the bonnet hinting that something special lies underneath, multibeam LED headlights are also fitted, these features come as standard equipment on the GLS 63 4MATIC+. A newly designed front apron using an integrated jetwing finishes off the front end of the car.

As you’d expect from an AMG model, the wheel arches are flared, and painted to match the body colour, as well as the side skirts and mirror caps. The rear of the car features a wider rear AMG apron incorporating a diffuser and the signature quad-pipe AMG exhaust. As standard, the GLS 63 4MATIC+ sits on 21” 10-spoke light-alloy wheels with a high-sheen finish painted in tantalite grey. Optionally there will be six other wheel variants available, up to 23”.

On the inside, the GLS 63 is a spacious place with room for up to seven people, high-quality materials have been used throughout the cabin. The GLS 63 features a few reminders of its AMG pedigree with stainless steel sports pedals, illuminated door sill panels featuring the “AMG” lettering, AMG floor mats and ambient lighting. ARTICO man-made leather and high-gloss anthracite limewood trim also add to the high-end finish of the interior.

The dashboard features a high-resolution widescreen display which incorporates both the instrument panel and media display. The instrument panel allows the driver to choose between four different display styles; “Modern Classic”, “Sport”, “Discreet” and an AMG only “Supersport”. The AMG steering wheel features three spokes and a flat bottom, with aluminium shift paddles.

Powered by 4.0-litre V8 biturbo which produces 450 kW (612 hp), for the first time has an integrated EQ Boost starter-alternator. This combines a starter motor and an alternator in a single electric motor which fits between the engine and transmission. This motor gives a brief burst of power of 16 kW (22 hp) and 250 Nm of torque bringing the overall torque figure of up to 850 Nm giving the driver added power when needed (overtaking etc). The 0-100 km/h dash takes only 4.2 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h (280 km/h when the AMG Driver’s package is optioned).
