Vauxhall Insignia News

Vauxhall has introduced new, more economical engines for the Insignia, featuring fuel savings of up to 18% compared to the older engines. CO2 emissions are also low with only 100g/km on the NEDC cycle. A new range-topping model has been added too; the GSi.

The new engine makes the Insignia one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class. The Insignia features low-friction gearboxes, an electro-hydraulic brake booster, mechatronic suspension and four-wheel drive with torque vectoring which together give a sporty and agile flagship model.

Three- and four-cylinder engines are available in the new engine range, starting with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 145hp and 122hp respectively. 50Kg of weight has been saved in the three-cylinder engines compared to the outgoing engines. Two 2.0-litre petrol engines will also be available which will produce 200hp and 230hp, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel will also be available later in the year.

A feature on the 2.0-litre engine which has helped reduce consumption is cylinder deactivation, this occurs when the driver doesn’t need a lot of power, the variable camshaft control deactivates two cylinders, drastically reducing consumption.

A varied choice of gearboxes is available; a six-speed manual gearbox, an eight or nine-speed automatic and an economical, stepless transmission, which is a low-friction gearbox giving seamless shifting.

The Insignia GSi features a Twinster four-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring when in AWD mode, two clutches are used instead of a rear differential to deliver the correct power to each wheel when needed. The GSi has been put through its paces at the world-famous Nordschleife where Vauxhall have tweaked the chassis to provide high grip.

Mechatronic FlexRide suspension comes as standard on the GSi, shock absorbers and steering adapts to road condition in fractions of a second. Exclusive to the GSi, the “Competition” driving mode is added to the other modes; “Standard”, “Tour” and “Sport”. The new Insignia GSi makes its debut at the 2020 Brussels Motor Show.

The Insignia’s new engine range goes on sale from February.
