If you are looking for something premium but compact, the BMW 1 Series definitely fits the bill! It is also by far the most affordable BMW and the used car market is flooded with them, so you will have plenty of options for specification.
They have a wide range of different powertrains as well from ultra-efficient diesels to sporty petrol models and everything in between. The interior is as comfortable and luxurious as larger BMWs as well, giving it that extra premium feel.
Whichever variation of the 1 Series you choose from the latest range will come well-equipped with enough tech to keep you happy. The interior comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as air-con, cruise control and a digital driver’s display. You also get front and rear parking sensors as standard, and many models will also come with leather seats (sometimes even heated!) and adaptive cruise control.
The 1 Series is a very efficient little car, with the petrol models getting between 35-47mpg (miles per gallon) and the diesel cars pushing between 51-61mpg. They also benefit from low CO2 emission figures, meaning the annual Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax) charges are pretty low.
The small hatchback class is now flooded with options from all over the world from the ever-popular and affordable Fords to the old classics from Germany like the famous VW Golf or the sensible Audi A3, and now the new boys like KIA Ceed and Hyundai i30 from South Korea. It can be hard to pick the right car from this massive lineup!
The BMW 1 Series lags behind its rivals in one area, and that is it doesn’t have any hybrid or electric version yet.
